I think you know what a booger is. You may even have seen one before, but if you haven’t, you probably don’t know exactly what it is. Well, I’m here to tell you that boogers have calories.
What Is Booger?
Boogers are actually a normal part of the body’s natural defenses. When bacteria and viruses enter the nose, it causes a reaction which leads to the formation of these white spots. It is similar to how your skin reacts when it comes in contact with something cold.
As mentioned before, the process that causes boogers happens in the nose. Most of the time, when people think of the word “booger”, they think of something that is coming from the back of the nose.
But, actually, boogers can come from anywhere in the nose. And, in some cases, they even come from the mouth.
There are a number of things that can cause the formation of boogers. For example, you can have allergies. This can cause your nose to swell, which can lead to the development of the white spots.
Another thing that can cause the formation of boogers is dust and pollen. Dust particles can enter your nose and irritate the mucous membranes. Pollen can also enter the nose and cause an allergic reaction.
Finally, you can have a runny nose. This can lead to the release of mucous and boogers.
there are two types of boogers. These are:
A. Nasal boogers.
B. Ocular boogers.
Nasal boogers are those that form in the nostrils. These are the ones most commonly seen and they are generally the smallest.
Ocular boogers, on the other hand, are those that form in the eyes. These are usually larger, and they tend to be more noticeable.
What is Booger Made of ?
We all know that boogers are made of mucus and saliva. We also know that they come from our noses. But did you know that they’re also made of dead skin cells? That’s right – they are made mostly of dead skin cells.
When you eat food or drink alcohol, your body creates mucus and saliva. This is to protect your body from the food or alcohol. But the dead skin cells in your nose don’t absorb the food or alcohol.
So, when you blow your nose, this mucus and saliva gets mixed with the dead skin cells in your nose. This makes your boogers.
Here are some things you can do to help prevent them.
- Wash your hands after eating and drinking
- This helps keep food and alcohol off of your face and nose.
- Keep your hands clean
- To keep your hands clean, wash them often.
- Avoid eating and drinking before bed
- Eating and drinking too close to bedtime can cause you to sleep poorly and have trouble waking up the next morning.
- Use a humidifier
- Humidifiers help keep your room dry. Moisture promotes the growth of bacteria, which can cause nasal congestion.
- Clean your nose regularly
- Keeping your nose clean will help reduce the amount of bacteria in your nose and throat.
Where Does Booger Come From ?
Most boogers come from the nostrils. However, if you look closely, you’ll notice that there are also tiny hairs in the mouth that contribute to boogers.
So basically, if you sneeze or blow your nose, a tiny bit of mucus comes out of your nostril and into your mouth. Since the mucus has dried in the nostril, it can be very sticky and cause a little bit of a tickle.
But that’s not all.
While you’re blowing your nose, a small amount of blood can also flow into your mouth. This too can create a little bit of a tickle.
However, the biggest part of booger production comes from the tongue. As you breathe, air passes through the nasal cavity and into your mouth.
In order to pass through the nose, the air must go through a narrow passage. If the air is too thick, it will create a suction that will pull the air back up the nose and into your throat.
So, it’s no surprise that if you want to clear your nose, you need to clear your throat. If you’re a booger producer, try clearing your throat after a sneeze or blow your nose.
Does Booger Have Calories ?
Does Booger have calories? I’ve seen this question asked on a variety of different websites. For the most part, the answer is it has 25 calories per 1/2 cup of boogers.
