Winco foods has changed hands several times. After being purchased by the American Tobacco Company, they changed their name to the WinCo Foods Corporation.
In 2001, it was sold to General Mills. Then in 2004, it was bought by the Mars Corporation. Since then, the company has been headquartered in Minnesota.

Who Founded Winco Foods
Winco Foods was founded by George Washington Carver in 1892 in Tuskegee, Alabama. His original goal was to use peanuts as a way to make food for his students. This is how he was able to create a food that would eventually feed millions.
In 1902, the company was moved to Peoria, Illinois. In 1906, it was purchased by A&P, which would later become part of PepsiCo. By the 1960s, the company had over 50 stores, which became the cornerstone of the grocery industry.
The company was sold to the Lundy Group in 1987, and was later sold to Del Monte Foods, a subsidiary of Pepsico, in 1993. Pepsico closed all of the Winco stores in 2007, and the remaining ones were converted to a limited assortment store.
Today, Winco Foods is owned by the Lundy Group, and they now produce and sell frozen foods under the Winco Foods brand.

Does Winco Take Food Stamps
WinCo is a popular discount supermarket chain located all across the country. Some of their stores accept EBT cards (food stamps) while others don’t.

This is similar to Walmart’s policy of allowing shoppers to use food stamps to purchase groceries, but only if the groceries aren’t sold in the store.
